Grass Roots Bike Trial is the new home for both South Coast Bike Trial (scbt) and Three Counties Bike Trial (3cbt) competitions. Both events were previously separate but operated quite collaboratively behind the scenes – so for 2026 we thought we would bring it all together under one roof. Our plan is to build more events like these across the UK bringing bike trials to your back yard!
We want to build participation in the sport, making bike-trials accessible to any age, gender, bike type or skill level. The vibe is always friendly and encouraging so don’t be afraid to give it a go. From nubies to oldies it’s a great day out – grab a ticket and come and give it a go!
Our Event Categories
White route is a great introduction into trials competition, typically this route will include tight turns and small obstacles. All obstacles are rollable and no hopping is required to get through these routes.
GREEN – NOVICE
A level up from white, expect to have to navigate up and down slopes, tight turns and obstacles up to around 30cm high. This is a great route if you have some bike experience and want to start tuning those skills. Being able to wheelie and endo are advised!
BLUE – INTERMEDIATE
This is where it starts to get serious, drop offs and jumping the bike are now required. Steep hills, loose terrain and moderately sized obstacles stand between you and the end gate. Good bike control on the rear wheel is a must!
Not for the faint hearted, large obstacles, small cliffs and narrow gates are just the start of it. Expect short run ups on big technical obstacles, it’s advised that riders are competent in most advanced techniques. P.s it will help if you can hook!
YELLOW – ELITE
The absolute top level, you will be competing against some of the best riders in the world. Expect massive moves with terrible run ups, high narrow obstacles and long sections. If you are unsure on which route to ride, this is not the route for you.
For this season we are still only running one women’s category, don’t be put off by the name, the routes are set with the riders in mind and will challenge all abilities.
If you would like us to run more women’s routes, help us by inviting more women to ride! It’s also worth noting that women can decide to compete against the men if they like.
What To Expect…
Competitions require one ticket per rider to enter and spectators attend for free. Drinks and BBQ food can be purchased at the event but we still recommend that you bring enough drink and snacks for a picnic! There will be a toilet at each comp, plus a first aid kit in case anyone takes a pedal to the shin. Helmets are always mandatory, and we do recommend that you wear shinpads and gloves.
The vibe is always relaxed, courses are challenging, everyone is encouraging and there’s never any pressure to take any risks. Come along, make some friends, give it a go and have a great time!
Join Our Event Partnership Programme
Longer term we want GRBT to function like a scene-building franchise so we’re looking to work with anyone that wants to get involved. If you know any locations that would make for a great comp – let us know. If you fancy getting involved with building a comp in your area – get in touch. We’re keen to share resources, networks, branding and insurance with anyone that wants to get involved and be a part of expanding the scene in the UK.
